Ordnance School Voucher Program for ASE Certification

A Partnership Built to Empower YOU For Your Career Success


The Army wants you to be successful in both the service and after discharge. In the civilian world, Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification demonstates your technical knowledge of vehicle repair. The Army has partnered with ASE and Cengage Learning to provide a special program. This program is designed to help you obtain ASE certification, a good job, and good pay in the motor vehicle industry.


This program includes:

  • An in-depth training course
  • An ASE exam preparation course
  • Registration for an ASE exam

Program Overview & Instructions: Please follow the steps below, in order, to complete this program designed for you. (Please turn off pop-up blocking software before beginning.)


STEP 1: Build Knowledge Foundation

Start the Professional Technician Training upon receiving Access and Learning codes. Plan to complete the course 5 weeks before test date.

  1. Turn off pop-up blocking software
  2. Go to www.trainingbay.cengage.com
    1. Select "Register" or "Login".
    2. Enter your Access Code and Learning Code. (Access Code allows you to select one course and authorizes access for one year.)
    3. Select your course and begin.
  3. Complete Section Training and Review Questions
    1. Spend as much time as you need to learn the information in each section and then complete the sections review questions before moving on to the next section.
    2. Go back to review sections and retake review questions as often as you want.
    3. Exit and log back in to the course as often as you want.
    4. Each time you leave the course, select "Exit" in lower right corner to save your work.
  4. Complete Final Review
    1. Select "Final Review" from course table of contents.
    2. Return to course sections to review materials as needed until a satisfactory score is achieved. (80% or higher is recommended.)

STEP 2: Prepare to Pass the Exam

Start the Technician Test Preparation course 4 weeks prior to your test date, to allow time to go back and review training materials as needed.

  1. Turn off pop-up blocking software.
  2. Go to www.trainingbay.cengage.com
    1. Log in to your account.
    2. Select "Add an Access Code" and enter your code. Select same topic area that was selected for Professional Technician Training Series. (Access Code authorizes for one year.)
    3. Select your course and begin.
  3. Read "Overview & Instruction" and "Task List" sections
    1. Learn about the content that you are expected to know on the test.
    2. Identify the number of questions that you can expect to see on the exam.
    3. Reference other valuable test taking tips.
  4. Complete 2 Practice Tests
    1. Take as much time as needed to answer each question.
    2. After you answer each question the correct answer immediately appears.
    3. Utilize answer explanations, links, videos, and animations for remediation on questions answered incorrectly.
    4. Take as many Practice Tests as you wish.
    5. If you feel you need more training in a specific area, return to the Professional Technician Training course.
  5. Complete 2 Sample/Standard Tests
    1. Take as much time as needed to answer each question.
    2. After you answer all the questions, a total score is provided.
    3. Take as many Sample/Standard Tests as you wish.
  6. Complete 2 Timed Tests - This is as close to the actual ASE exam as you can get
    1. You have limited time to finish the exam and you are scored at the end.
    2. Take as many Timed Tests as you wish.
  7. Review your results
    1. View reports listed to the left of the course screen.
    2. Utilize the Task List report to identify specific areas where improvement is needed. Revisit the Task List content for those areas, and return to the Professional Technician Training course if needed.

STEP 3: Take the Exam

Now that you have prepared for the exam, it's time to register.

  1. Go to www.myASE.com and watch the video on starting your free myASE account. Then set it up.
  2. Register for your exam, and on the Order Summary page click on the "Add Coupon/Voucher" button.
  3. Enter the Voucher Code into the "Coupon/Voucher Code" box.
  4. Schedule an appointment to take the exam.
  5. Review what to expect at the test center. Click the "Quicklinks" tab, then "What to Expect".
